Photographer Jill Peters has two projects, Sworn Virgins of Albania and The Third Gender, that look at gender and identity in different cultures.  The first time I really considered this phenomenon was with Ann Summa‘s work, exploring at Muxes in the In Zapotec cultures of Oaxaca.  Jill Peters deftly captures these rarefied populations with curiosity
