Summer Mix: LACMA’s Photographic Arts Council Exhibition
This summer I was honored to co-curate (along with Sheila Arens, Sara Jane Boyers, and Svjetlana Tepavcevic) a terrific exhibition that is opening this Saturday. LACMA’s Photographic Arts Council and the Wallis Annenberg Photography Department present SUMMER MIX: Images by Members of LACMA’s Photographic Arts Council, a new exhibition of photographs at the Creative Photography Workshops/Gallery, 6020 Wilshire Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA 90036.
SUMMER MIX will open on Saturday, July 17, 2010 from 12 to 6 pm as part of the Miracle Mile Art Walk, followed by a special reception from 6 to 9 pm. The exhibition is open on Fridays and Saturdays and will run until Saturday, August 14.
The exhibition showcases the diverse voices of 43 of its members, among whom are professional photographers, gallery owners, collectors, educators, serious amateurs, and photo enthusiasts. SUMMER MIX illustrates the important role PAC plays in fostering community-wide appreciation of photography, celebrating the richly layered photographic community of Los Angeles.
Exhibiting PAC Photographers : Deborah Alexander, Joan Allen, Sheila Arens, Kathryn Ballsun, Nancy Baron, Cindy Bendat, Sara Jane Boyers, Ellen Cantor, Judy Coleman, Stephanie Farr, Karen Florek, Ronda Gómez-Quiñones, Roxanne Guez, Mei Xian Qiu, Nancy Hardin, Gloria Katz Huyck, Willard Huyck, Bill Johnson, Amanda Keller Konya, Alan Kornfeld, Christine Kummer-Hardt, Ron Lebel, Barbara Mack, Meg Madison, Alia Malley, Ed Martin, David Meltzer, Ann Mitchell, Teleia Montgomery, Dennis Reed, Fredric Roberts, Marilyn Sanders, Pamela Mayers Schoenberg, Wayne Schoenfeld, Don Schwartz, Catherine Singer, Aline Smithson, Jill Stein, Judith Taylor, Svjetlana Tepavcevic, Robert Brecko Walker, Jamie Wolf and Linda Wolf.
In case you were wondering, LACMA’s Photographic Art Council was founded for the purpose of developing individual and community-wide appreciation and knowledge of the art of photography, the Photographic Arts Council is designed to benefit both its members and the museum by raising the visibility and awareness of photography in Los Angeles. Members are invited to a series of informal artists’ studio tours and private dinners at local collectors’ homes, as well as private receptions following the public photo lectures held in conjunction with LACMA exhibitions. If you live in Los Angeles, consider joining, or investigate the photo councils at your local museums.
