William Wegman at the Panopticon Gallery
To say I’m a huge fan of William Wegman’s work is an understatement. The masterful Mr. Wegman has been hard at work for many a decade, finding new ways to celebrate and create art using the same set of ingrediants: dogs, humor, intelligence, and smart simplicity. I took a video class from Mr. Wegman in when I was in college, after his short, hilarious videos were the hit of the art world, and the concept that simple ideas can be at the same time funny and smart is one that stayed with me. The good news is that Jason Landry at the Panopticon Gallery in Boston has had the good sense to offer up William’s latest dog-earred work in an exhibition titled, Inside/Outside. Jeffrey Keoug has written a wonderful essay about the process of meeting with William, watching him work, and falling in love with his images all over again. The images, some from the archives, and some never before seen, capture Wegman’s consistent inventiveness from within the studio and outside in the landscape. The exhibition features 38 works and runs through September 7th–and seems well worth a visit!
