Dina Litovsky: Fashion Lust
Photographer Dina Litovsky has recently opened an exhibition at the Anastasia Gallery in New York titled, Fashion Lust, which runs through February 26th. The opening for the exhibition is tonight, January 14th, 2015 from 6:30- 8:30. Dina has long investigated social performance and interactions and the fashion world, in front of and behind the runway, is ripe for examination.
Born in Ukraine, Litovsky moved to New York in 1991. After receiving her BA in Psychology from NYU, she earned her MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts in 2010. She joined Polaris Images in 2013 and has won many awards including NPPA Best of Photojournalism (2012, 1st Place), PDN Photo Annual (2013) and the International Photography Awards (2011, 1st Place). Most recently she was selected as PDN 30, New and Emerging Photographers to Watch. Her work has been published in Time, The New York Times, The New Yorker, New York Magazine, Stern, Newsweek Japan, Wired, Photo District News and many others. She joined Anastasia Photo in 2012 and has exhibited widely domestically and internationally.
Photographed over four seasons, Fashion Lust dismantles the carefully packaged and highly indulgent viral
fashion image. Litovsky’s photos investigate the scene where the expertly constructed image of guests rivals the air-brushed glamour of the actual show. With photographers often outnumbering models backstage and front row guests, the appetite to see and be seen extends to everyone in the closed, hectic space of blinding flashes and surveillance-style Instagramming.
