I’m taking a mid week break from looking at photography, to share some photo news, feature an interesting blog, and offer a submittal opportunity..

I’d like to annouce the formation a new photography gallery in San Francisco, which is an exciting prospect in these financial times. Jan Potts and Liz Corden have realized the dream of starting a photography gallery by opening CORDEN/POTTS GALLERY, in the prestigious 49 Geary building. Both gallery directors are photographers and curators, and “in both those roles we came to realize long ago that there are all too few galleries dedicated to showing the work of top-notch emerging photographers and, of those that existed when we were starting out, a huge percentage have disappeared.”

The first exhibition is The Caretakers, work by Berkeley-based photographer Bill Mattick, will open on March 3 at CordenPotts Gallery. The exhibition will run until April 30. A reception for the artist, which will be open to the public, will take place on Saturday, March 14, from 2 to 4 pm.

The Caretakers is a series of images of an abandoned train station located at 16th and Wood streets in Oakland, where photographer Mattick discovered two homeless men who had taken on the unofficial role of caretakers for the decaying station.
