Martha Flemming-Ives
Martha Fleming-Ives recently received a Director’s Choice Award in the 2010 Center Awards, along with a number of other worthy recipients.
Martha’s website does not include statements or any writing about the work, so it is left up to the viewer to decide what the series is about. The natural assumption is that it is a project about her mother because of the close relationship between photographer and model. She has a innate ability for story telling, and her use of light elevates mundane moments. It’s refreshing to have documentation of a capable woman of a certain age, sharing her intimate and truthful self.
Martha lives in Brooklyn and is an MFA candidate at the School of Visual Arts in New York.
