Desiree Edkins and Betsy Schneider
continuing to look at photographers from Photolucida
Some time ago, I created a post titled Beautiful Boys featuring the work of Shawn Records and Timothy Archibald. After discovering Desiree Edkins’ and Betsy Schneider’s photographs of girls, their work seemed to be the perfect bookend to that earlier post.
New York native, Desiree Edkins, received her BFA from Arizona State University and went on to work as a commercial photographer for the next 5 years. Two years ago, she returned to her fine art roots and has created a number of interesting bodies of work, several that feature her daughter, Ella.
Betsy Schneider ” was an assistant to Sally Mann and studied with Catherine Wagner and Larry Sultan. She has degrees from the University of Michigan, the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Mills College. She has taught at several UK institutions including Cavendish College, Byam Shaw School of Art, and the London Institute. She is a member of the Board of Directors for the Society for Photographic Education in the US. Betsy Schneider is an Associate Professor of Art at Arizona State University in Tempe.”
Betsy recently was awarded the Center Prize for a Singular Image. She too, has many bodies of terrific work.
