Followers of the Candomblé religion looking out to the ocean on Yemanjá’s day in Salvador, Bahia. Yemanjá, a Candomblé deity , is the queen of the waters and highly revered in this seaside city formed mainly by afro-brazilians. On her day, the fishermen make her offerings – perfume, flowers, jewelry, pastries – that are put into the sea asking for protection and a good year of fishing.
