She came to my house for lunch with her daughters, Dasha and Yasya, wearing a fresh white dress that seemed to catch the summer light. She was radiant, waiting for her third child, Myron. I could see how much better she felt than during her last pregnancy. Her body more at ease, her face softer, free of the strain that once marked her. Yet in her eyes, even in that peaceful moment, there was still a glint of fear for what lay ahead. In the stillness of that afternoon, joy and uncertainty lived side by side, and hope seemed to hold them both.
