David H. Wells
David H. Wells is a photographer’s photographer, with a roster of achievements that boggles the mind. He is a teacher (International Center for Photography in NYC , Maine Media Workshops, University of Pennsylvania), a documentarian and writer with projects funded by fellowships from Nikon/National Press Photographers Association, the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, the MacArthur Foundation’s Program of Research and Writing on International Peace and Cooperation, the Alicia Patterson Foundation and the Fulbright Foundation, and an active fine art photographer with a myriad of solo and group exhibitions, all while maintaining an active stock photography business.
In addition to his own image making, David has created two ventures, Photo Synesi and The Wells Point. Photo Synesi connects photographers to professionals. Aspiring photographers are able to get in-depth and personalized reviews of their work by professionals in the form of both written and spoken feedback on their images. The Wells Point is the place on the web for improving your photography, a web site with video podcasts and free information for aspiring and accomplished photographers. These podcasts and other information have been designed to stimulate your creativity and improve your craftsmanship.
David has been exploring the results of our diminished economy with a new project, Foreclosed Dreams. The series looks at what people leave behind in a crisis, and what condition they leave a house under stress. He looks for human elements that give the empty spaces character and personal connections. This project captures homes across the country, highlighting the housing crisis and the unrealized dreams of so many Americans. There is a terrific article in the Opinionator in the New York Times about this work and this subject.
David is a master with light. His international Light Studies projects reveal a way of seeing that requires a rarified and well developed sensibility.
