Who is the fool here, April?
I’ve been thinking about the current state of affairs for fine art photographers–it’s a tough business, with little or no financial gain. Of course the joy comes from the work and expressing your creative vision, but it’s taking on a circus feel. All the promotion, the marketing, the shouting about our work…the competitions, the portfolio reviews, the desperate need to get work under one more set of eyes. Well, I don’t know about anyone else, but I’m exhausted. I want to get back to basics. I want to make work without competitions looming and must-do activities. I don’t want to show up all the time.
