Matt Mahurin
I’m not showing you anything new here, but I’ve been thinking a lot about my photographic influences and I wanted to revisit Matt Mahurin’s work, as it had a profound affect on me when I was first looking at photography in a serious way. He’s an incredible artistic spirit, besides being a photographer, he is a filmmaker, video director, and illustrator, who’s work often appears on magazine covers and in articles. I was drawn to his darkness, as if someone turned the lights out and things got a little dicey. For years, I had his amazing photographs of Marilyn Manson over my desk (which always befuddled my children). Being exposed to his work gave me the courage to print even darker, to explore my own images in a new way, and feel like the darkroom was a magical place. Thank you, Matt! And Happy Halloween.
