Christy Karpinski
This week I am continuing to feature photographers that are editors, gallerists, or bloggers, yet manage to maintain their own vision.
We should all be grateful to Christy Karpinsky, venurable editor of F-Stop Magazine, who has showcased a myriad of photographers since 2002. Christy also published a book, F-Stop: the first four years, featuring a collection of photographers featured in F-Stop.
Currently a working photographer and teacher at the Columbia College in Chicago, much of Christy’s personal work revolves around children, as a result of working as a nanny. Her rich, color saturated, and detail-focused photographs speak “to the internal transition, by asking the adult viewer to identify with the child and to recognize how these changes in our perception of children are also changes in our perception and experience of ourselves as adults.”
“Christy received the Illinois Arts Council Fellowship Award in photography for 2007 as well as an Award of Excellence from the Cook County Treasurer’s Office. Her work has been exhibited at a number of galleries as well as the Griffin Museum of Photography . It has also been published in – Wondertime, Shots, StoryQuarterly, File Magazine, Foto Pozytyw, Feline, Altar, as well as the books – Home Life, A Field Guide to the North American Family, COPA exhibition catalog, and the artist’s book Invisible.”
