Mayumi Lake
I thought it best to share the images first…Mayumi Lake’s new “body” of work, Poo-Chi, explores a part of the body that is often neglected in photography. And no, it not below the waist, it’s a bit higher…and after some observation, probably belongs to a man… Poo-Chi is now a book, distributed by Photoeye. After you get over the initial jolt of seeing this work, it’s a wry and clever way to engage the viewer.
Mayumi was born in Osaka, Japan but came to the states to study at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine, and the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, and holds both a BFA and an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where she currently lives.. She has a number of interesting series, including Final Address and My Idol.
