Carl Corey: Americaville
We cannot despair humanity, since we ourselves are human –Albert Einstein
I think of Carl Corey as a photographer’s photographer. He brings a level of excellence to his seeing and his (and others) spectacular prints. Carl knows this country intimately from trips that criss-cross America, shining a light on small communities and the working backbone of our nation: ranchers, machinists, bartenders, and the unseen ordinary. In an effort this week to understand the election results by examining our country with fresh eyes, I am sharing Carl’s newest series, Americaville. His work focuses on places that have been left behind, that have lost their vitality and purpose, are outside of a city’s reach, that are waiting for change.
A career artist since 1979 and the author of three award-winning photography books, Carl Corey’s photographs are exhibited widely in solo and group shows in the United States and abroad. His work has also been featured in many of photography’s most prestigious periodicals and is represented in a growing number of museum, corporate, and private collections. Carl is the recipient of over 100 awards from the publishing and photography communities.
Observations from Americaville regarding the recent elections in America. Rather than present the words for you to spend time reading, my hope is that you look a wee bit longer at the picture — Carl Corey
